You just arrived at Narita Airport. Welcome to Japan! 🇯🇵
After immigration, baggage claim, and customs, you will enter the arrival lobby.
You may be tired and wondering:
“What should I do first?”
Don’t worry.
You do not need to do everything at once.
Just follow these simple steps.
✅ 1. Check Your Terminal
Before going anywhere, check which terminal you are in.
Narita Airport has three passenger terminals:
Terminal 1
Terminal 2
Terminal 3
Knowing your terminal is important because train stations, bus stops, shops, and other services may be in different locations.
✅ 2. Connect to Free Wi-Fi
Before leaving the airport, get your phone online.
Narita Airport provides free Wi-Fi.
Look for the Wi-Fi network:
FreeWiFi-NARITA
Turn on Wi-Fi, select the network, and follow the instructions on your screen.
Having internet access will make the next steps much easier.
You may need it for:
📍 Google Maps
🚆 Train routes
🚌 Bus information
🏨 Hotel directions
🌐 Translation
✅ 3. Check Your Phone Battery
Your phone will probably be one of your most important tools after arriving in Japan.
Before starting your journey, check your battery.
If your battery is low, charge your phone before leaving the airport.
Narita Airport has power outlets and charging facilities in various locations.
It is much easier to travel when you do not have to worry about your phone running out of battery.
✅ 4. Check If You Have Japanese Yen
Credit cards are widely accepted in Japan, but having some Japanese yen can still be useful.
You may need cash for small purchases or situations where your card does not work.
ATMs and currency exchange services are available at Narita Airport.
If you do not have Japanese cash yet, this is a good time to get some.
✅ 5. Check Where Your Hotel or Accommodation Is
Before buying a train or bus ticket, check exactly where you are going.
Open Google Maps and search for your hotel, hostel, or accommodation.
Do not just search for “Tokyo.”
Find the exact station or area closest to your accommodation.
This will make it much easier to choose the correct transportation.
✅ 6. Decide How to Leave Narita Airport
There are several ways to travel from Narita Airport.
You can use:
🚆 Train
🚌 Bus
🚕 Taxi
🚗 Private transfer or car
The best option depends on where you are going, your budget, how much luggage you have, and what time you arrive.
Check your route before buying a ticket.
🌙 Did You Arrive Late at Night?
If you arrive late at night, do not rush to leave the airport.
First, check whether trains and buses are still running.
If you miss the last train or bus, you still have several options.
You may be able to:
🪑 Stay at the airport until morning
🛏️ Use a capsule hotel
🏨 Stay at a nearby hotel

🚿 Find somewhere to shower or rest
We will explain these options in separate Japan Life Steps guides.
