Important: The North Gate is a separate ticket gate. The East and West Exits are reached from the Central Gate area.
Which Railway Lines Serve Omori Station?
Omori Station (大森駅, JK18) is served by the JR Keihin-Tohoku Line.
You can take this line toward:
- Shinagawa and Tokyo
- Kamata and Kawasaki
- Yokohama
There is no Tokyo Metro or Toei Subway line at Omori Station.
Also, Omori Station and Omorikaigan Station are not the same station.
Omorikaigan is on the Keikyu Main Line and is located separately, to the east of JR Omori Station.
Central Gate: The Main Exit for East and West
The Central Gate (中央改札) is the main ticket gate for reaching the East Exit and West Exit.
Once you leave the Central Gate, check the signs carefully.
- East Exit (東口): Shopping, Omori Bellport, and the Omorikaigan area.
- West Exit (西口): Sanno, Ikegami-dori Street, and western Omori.
Do not confuse the name of the ticket gate with the name of the street exit.
If you need the opposite side of the station, follow the signs for the appropriate exit before heading outside.
East Exit: Shopping, Hotels and Omori Bellport
The East Exit leads toward the commercial areas east of Omori Station.
This is a useful choice for:
- Omori Bellport
- Hotels near the eastern side of the station
- East-side bus and taxi stops
- The direction of Keikyu Omorikaigan Station
Atre Omori: Directly Connected to the Station
Atre Omori is a shopping center directly connected to JR Omori Station.
Follow the signs for Atre from the Central Gate.
The main building entrance is immediately to your left after leaving the Central Gate.
You do not need to go outside to reach the shopping center.
Atre Omori includes shops, restaurants, and everyday services.
Omori Bellport
Omori Bellport is a large commercial and office complex with restaurants, shops, and event spaces.
According to its official website, it is approximately three minutes on foot from JR Omori Station.
Use the East Exit and continue toward the complex.
Going to Omorikaigan Station
If you need the Keikyu Main Line, Omorikaigan Station is located east of JR Omori.
Follow the East Exit direction and check the walking route to the Keikyu station.
The two stations do not share ticket gates or platforms.
You will need to walk outside between them.
West Exit: Sanno and Ikegami-dori
The West Exit leads toward the Sanno neighborhood and Ikegami-dori Street.
Choose the West Exit for:
- Sanno neighborhood
- Ikegami-dori Street
- Omori Red Cross Hospital direction
- Ota City Folk Museum direction
- West-side bus and taxi stops
Why the West Exit Can Be Confusing
Some destinations are located farther into the Sanno neighborhood.
The station exit is only the beginning of your walk.
If you are heading to a hotel, hospital, or another specific address, check the exact route rather than assuming everything on the western side is close to the station.
North Gate: Sanno Side or Minami-Oi Side?
The North Gate (北口改札) is separate from the Central Gate.
After leaving the North Gate, you can head toward two different areas:
- Sanno side (山王方面): For Sanno 1-chome and 2-chome, and the Omori Shell Mounds Garden area.
- Minami-Oi side (南大井方面): For Minami-Oi 6-chome and nearby destinations on the eastern side.
Check which side is closest to your destination before continuing.
The North Gate is also convenient for the walking route to Shinagawa Aquarium.
Accessibility warning: The North Gate route does not have an elevator. If you need step-free access, use the Central Gate and check the accessible route.
Going to Shinagawa Aquarium
Shinagawa Aquarium (しながわ水族館) is a popular attraction in Shinagawa City.
According to the aquarium’s official website:
JR Omori Station → North Gate → approximately 15 minutes on foot
However, the aquarium warns that the North Gate route does not have an elevator.
If you are traveling with a stroller, wheelchair, or large suitcase, check an accessible alternative before leaving the train platform.
Is There a Free Shuttle Bus From Omori Station?
Do not assume there is a free shuttle bus from Omori Station.
The aquarium’s official free shuttle bus departs from JR Oimachi Station, not JR Omori Station.
From Oimachi Station, the bus leaves from Stop 6 at the East Exit bus rotary.
If you plan to use the shuttle bus, check the official timetable and operating days.
Another Railway Option
You can also reach Shinagawa Aquarium from Keikyu Omorikaigan Station.
The aquarium lists the walk from Omorikaigan Station as approximately eight minutes.
Choose the route that best suits your starting point and mobility needs.
Traveling With Luggage, a Stroller, or a Wheelchair
If you need step-free access, do not automatically choose the North Gate just because it is closest to your destination.
The North Gate route has an accessibility limitation.
The Central Gate provides access to station elevator facilities.
Before leaving the train:
- Check the official JR station map.
- Look for elevator signs.
- Choose a gate with a suitable accessible route.
- Ask station staff if you are unsure.
For travelers heading to Shinagawa Aquarium, the shortest walking route may not be the easiest accessible route.
Common Mistakes at Omori Station
Mistake 1: Confusing the North Gate With the West Exit
The North Gate is a separate ticket gate.
The West Exit is reached from the Central Gate area.
They are not the same place.
Mistake 2: Taking the West Exit for Omori Bellport
Omori Bellport is on the eastern side of JR Omori Station.
Follow signs for the East Exit.
Mistake 3: Confusing Omori and Omorikaigan Stations
Omori is a JR station.
Omorikaigan is a Keikyu station.
They are separate stations, and you must walk outside to travel between them on foot.
Mistake 4: Looking for the Aquarium Shuttle at Omori Station
The free Shinagawa Aquarium shuttle bus departs from Oimachi Station.
Do not confuse Oimachi and Omori.
Mistake 5: Choosing the North Gate Without Checking Accessibility
The route through the North Gate is not suitable for everyone.
If you need an elevator, check the station’s official accessible routes.
Quick Summary
Remember these simple points:
- Central Gate: Direct connection to Atre Omori and access to the East and West Exits.
- East Exit: Omori Bellport, eastern hotels, and the direction of Omorikaigan Station.
- West Exit: Sanno, Ikegami-dori Street, and western Omori.
- North Gate: Sanno and Minami-Oi areas, Omori Shell Mounds Garden, and the walking route to Shinagawa Aquarium.
- Shinagawa Aquarium: About 15 minutes on foot from the North Gate, but check accessibility.
- Keikyu Line: Use the separate Omorikaigan Station.
The easiest way to avoid getting lost at Omori Station is to check whether your destination requires the Central Gate or the North Gate before leaving the platform.
