Tokyo Station Exits Explained: Marunouchi, Yaesu, North, Central & South

Tokyo Station main exits showing Marunouchi west side and Yaesu east side Tokyo Subway Stations

Tokyo Station is huge, but the exit system becomes much easier once you understand one simple rule:

Marunouchi = West side
Yaesu = East side

For a simple way to understand the main ground-level exits, think of six exits.

The Six Main Ground-Level Exits

Marunouchi Side — West

  • Marunouchi North Exit
  • Marunouchi Central Exit
  • Marunouchi South Exit

Yaesu Side — East

  • Yaesu North Exit
  • Yaesu Central Exit
  • Yaesu South Exit

First Choose: Marunouchi or Yaesu?

Before choosing North, Central, or South, first check which side of Tokyo Station your destination is on.

Marunouchi Side — West

The Marunouchi side is the west side of Tokyo Station.

This is also the side with the famous red-brick station building.

It is convenient for places such as:

Yaesu Side — East

The Yaesu side is on the east side of Tokyo Station.

What Do North, Central and South Mean?

“Central” is not a third side of Tokyo Station.

Both Marunouchi and Yaesu have their own North, Central, and South exits.

Marunouchi Side

  • Marunouchi North Exit
  • Marunouchi Central Exit
  • Marunouchi South Exit

Yaesu Side

  • Yaesu North Exit
  • Yaesu Central Exit
  • Yaesu South Exit

So the easiest way to think about it is:

First choose Marunouchi or Yaesu.

Then choose:

North / Central / South

Check the Tokyo Station Map

If you are not sure where to go, check the official station map before leaving the station.

Tokyo Station also has underground exits and other entrances, so there are more exits than the six main ground-level exits explained here.

Use Google Maps Before You Exit

You can also check your destination on:

Google Maps

Search for places such as:

  • KITTE Marunouchi
  • Marunouchi Building
  • Tokyo Station Hotel
  • Bus Terminal Tokyo Yaesu
  • Your hotel name

First check whether your destination is on the Marunouchi side or Yaesu side.

Then look for the closest North, Central, or South Exit.

Ask Station Staff

If you are still unsure, you can ask:

“Which exit should I use for this place?”

Showing the destination on your phone can make it easier.

Quick Answer
