The station is convenient, but its many ticket gates and long underground passages can be confusing for first-time visitors.
Before looking for a specific exit number, first check whether your destination is on the east side or the west side of the station.

Be Careful with Seibu and Tobu
The locations of Seibu and Tobu can be confusing.
At Ikebukuro Station:
- Seibu is on the east side
- Tobu is on the west side
Do not assume that Seibu is west or Tobu is east because of their Japanese names. Follow the station’s East Exit and West Exit signs.
Three Ways to Avoid Getting Lost
1. Check Whether Your Destination Is East or West
Choose the correct side of the station before searching for a specific exit number.
2. Do Not Use the First Exit You See
Check the list of nearby buildings displayed beside the exit before going up to street level.
3. Show Your Destination to Station Staff
Display the destination name or address on your phone and ask:
“Kono basho wa dono deguchi desu ka?”
This means:
“Which exit should I use for this place?”
