Gotanda Station: Which Exit for TOC Building and Gotanda Tokyu Square?

Gotanda Station area near TOC Building and Gotanda Tokyu Square Tokyo Subway Stations

Arrived at Gotanda Station and not sure which exit to use?

You may be wondering:

  • Which exit should I use for the TOC Building?
  • Is Gotanda Tokyu Square directly connected to the station?
  • Do JR, Tokyu, and the Toei Asakusa Line use the same exits?

Gotanda Station is served by three lines:

  • JR Yamanote Line
  • Tokyu Ikegami Line
  • Toei Asakusa Line

The best route depends on both your destination and the line you are using.

Best Exit by Destination

TOC Building
→ JR West Exit area
→ About 8 minutes on foot
→ Weekday shuttle bus available from JR West Exit Bus Stop 9

Gotanda Tokyu Square
→ JR / Tokyu: Directly connected
→ Toei Asakusa Line: Exit A3

TOC Building: Head Toward the West Exit

If you are going to the TOC Building, head toward the West Exit area of Gotanda Station.

According to the official TOC access information, the building is about an 8-minute walk from JR or Toei Gotanda Station.

On weekdays, TOC also operates a shuttle bus from Bus Stop 9 near the JR Gotanda Station West Exit.

Common Confusion Point: TOC Is Not Right Next to Gotanda Station

Because the building is often called “TOC Gotanda,” you might expect it to be directly in front of the station.

It is not.

The official access information lists the approximate walking times as:

Osaki-Hirokoji Station → about 5 minutes

Fudomae Station → about 6 minutes

Gotanda Station → about 8 minutes

So depending on which railway line you are using, Gotanda may not actually be the closest station to TOC.

This is worth checking before you travel.

Gotanda Tokyu Square: Directly Connected from JR and Tokyu

Gotanda Tokyu Square is directly connected to both JR Gotanda Station and Tokyu Gotanda Station.

From the JR Yamanote Line, you can follow the connection toward the Tokyu Ikegami Line and enter Gotanda Tokyu Square without first walking outside.

The connection leads into the 4th floor of Gotanda Tokyu Square.

From the Toei Asakusa Line: Use Exit A3

If you arrive on the Toei Asakusa Line, use Exit A3 for Gotanda Tokyu Square.

The shopping center’s official access guide lists:

Toei Asakusa Line Gotanda Station Exit A3 → about 1 minute on foot

This is different from the JR and Tokyu route.

Common Confusion Point: “Directly Connected” Does Not Mean the Same Route for Every Line

Gotanda Tokyu Square is often described as being directly connected to Gotanda Station.

However, the route depends on which line you use.

JR / Tokyu → Direct station connection

Toei Asakusa Line → Exit A3

If you arrive by subway and expect to follow exactly the same route as JR passengers, you may get confused.

Another Confusion Point: The Tokyu Ikegami Line Is Above the JR Station

The Tokyu Ikegami Line platforms at Gotanda Station are located above the JR station area.

This can surprise visitors who expect another railway line to be underground.

The Tokyu station layout connects with the JR transfer area and the 4th floor of Gotanda Tokyu Square.

So when transferring from JR to the Tokyu Ikegami Line, look upward and follow the Tokyu signs rather than searching for an underground platform.

Quick Summary

TOC Building
→ Gotanda Station West Exit area
→ About 8 minutes on foot
→ Weekday shuttle bus from JR West Exit Bus Stop 9

Gotanda Tokyu Square
→ Directly connected from JR / Tokyu
→ Toei Asakusa Line: Exit A3

The two most useful things to remember at Gotanda Station are:

TOC is not directly next to the station.

and
