✅ 4. Check the Station Number
Each station also has a number.
A simple way to remember it is:
Color = Line color
Letter = Line name
No. = Station number
For example:
🟠G09 = Ginza Line, Ginza Station
This means:
🟠G = Ginza Line
09 = Ginza Station
Nearby stations are:
🟠G08 = Shimbashi Station
🟠G09 = Ginza Station
🟠G10 = Kyobashi Station
So even if you cannot read Japanese, the letter and number can help you find the correct station.
✅ 5. Find Your Current Station
Now find the station where you are starting.
Check:
Line color
Line letter
Station number
For example:
G09 = Ginza Station
Color = Line color
Letter = Line name
No. = Station number
Example:
Orange + G + 09 = Ginza Line, Ginza Station
Then compare it with your destination station.
✅ 6. Check Which Direction to Go
Look at the station numbers along the line.
For example:
🟠G09 Ginza → 🟠G10 Kyobashi → 🟠G11 Nihombashi
If your destination number is higher, you will usually travel toward the higher numbers.
If your destination number is lower, you will usually travel toward the lower numbers.
Always check the station signs before boarding.

✅ 7. Check If You Need to Transfer
If your destination is on another line, you will need to transfer.
For example, at Ginza Station:
🟠 G09 = Ginza Line, Ginza Station
↓ Transfer
🔴 M16 = Marunouchi Line, Ginza Station
The station name is the same, but the line color, letter, and station number change.
After you transfer, check the new:
Color
Letter
Station number
Then follow the signs for the new line.
✅ 8. Check the New Line After You Transfer
After changing trains, check the new:
Line color
Line letter
Station number
For example:
🟠G = Ginza Line
may change to:
🔴M = Marunouchi Line
This helps you make sure you are still following the correct route.
✅ 9. Check Your Destination Station Number
Remember the station number where you need to get off.
For example:
🟠G09 → 🟠G10 → 🟠G11
If you start at G09 Ginza and your destination is 🟠G11 Nihonbashi, you know your stop is coming soon.
✅ 10. Check the Exit Number
Large subway stations may have many exits.
Look for signs such as:
A1
A2
B3

Choose the exit closest to your destination.
Google Maps can also help you find the best exit.
