Nippori Station: Which Exit for Yanaka, Fabric Town, and the Skyliner?

Traveler confused about which exit to use at Nippori Station Tokyo Subway Stations

Arrived at Nippori Station and not sure which way to go?

Nippori can be confusing because JR, Keisei, and the Nippori-Toneri Liner all use the same station area.

But there is one easy thing to remember:

Yanaka → west
Nippori Fabric Town → east

And if you arrive from Narita Airport on the Keisei Skyliner and want to transfer to JR, you usually do not need to leave the station first.

Best Exit by Destination

Yanaka / Yanaka Ginza
→ North West Exit

Nippori Fabric Town
→ JR South Exit
→ Head toward the east side

Keisei Skyliner → JR
→ Follow the JR transfer signs to Ticket Gate B

Yanaka and Yanaka Ginza: Go West

If you are going to Yanaka or Yanaka Ginza, use the North West Exit.

Tokyo’s official tourism website, GO TOKYO, recommends this exit for walking toward Yanaka.

From there, you can continue toward Yanaka Cemetery, Yuyake Dandan, and Yanaka Ginza Shopping Street.

Common Confusion Point: Yanaka and Fabric Town Are on Opposite Sides

This is one of the easiest mistakes to make at Nippori Station.

Yanaka → west

Fabric Town → east

If you remember this, choosing the right direction becomes much easier.

Nippori Fabric Town: Use the South Exit

If you are looking for fabric, leather, buttons, sewing supplies, or craft materials, head to Nippori Fabric Town.

The official Fabric Town website recommends:

JR Nippori Station South Exit → about 3 minutes on foot

Fabric Town is on the east side of the station and extends along Nippori Chuo Street.

So the simple way to remember it is:

South Exit → east side → Fabric Town

Arriving by Skyliner? Transfer to JR Inside the Station

Nippori is an important transfer station for travelers arriving from Narita Airport on the Keisei Skyliner.

If you want to continue by JR, including the Yamanote Line, follow the signs for the JR transfer gate.

Keisei’s official guide tells passengers arriving at Nippori to go upstairs and use:

Ticket Gate B

If you are using an IC card, touch your card at the transfer gate and make sure you have enough balance.

If you are unsure about your ticket type, check the Keisei information or ask station staff.

Important: Some Skyliner Tickets Cannot Transfer to JR at Nippori

If you are using either of these:

  • Keisei Skyliner & Tokyo Subway Ticket
  • Greater Tokyo Pass

Keisei says you cannot transfer to JR at Nippori Station using these tickets.

Use Keisei-Ueno Station instead.

JR, Keisei, and the Nippori-Toneri Liner Are Different

Nippori Station serves:

  • JR East
  • Keisei Railway
  • Nippori-Toneri Liner

They are in the same station area, but they have different gates and platforms.

If you have just arrived from Narita Airport, follow the JR transfer signs rather than automatically following signs for an outside exit.

Quick Summary

Yanaka / Yanaka Ginza
→ North West Exit / west side

Nippori Fabric Town
→ JR South Exit / east side

Keisei Skyliner → JR
→ Follow the transfer signs to Ticket Gate B

The easiest way to remember Nippori is:

Yanaka is west.
Fabric Town is east.
