Lost at Tokyo Skytree: Oshiage or Tokyo Skytree Station? — Which Should You Use?

Tokyo Skytree with Oshiage and Tokyo Skytree Station for visitors choosing the easiest route Travel & Attractions

Going to Tokyo Skytree but not sure which station to use?

This can be confusing because Tokyo Skytree has two convenient stations:

Oshiage (SKYTREE) Station

and

TOKYO SKYTREE Station

Both are very close to Tokyo Skytree.

So which one should you choose?

The simple answer is:

Hanzomon Line / Toei Asakusa Line / Keisei Line → Oshiage Station

Tobu Skytree Line from Asakusa → TOKYO SKYTREE Station

You usually do not need to make an extra transfer just to use the other station.

Quick Answer: Which Station Is Better?

There is no single station that is best for everyone.

Choose the station that works naturally with the train line you are already using.

Oshiage Station — Best for Several Subway and Railway Lines

Oshiage Station is one of the easiest ways to reach Tokyo Skytree.

It is served by several railway lines, including:

  • Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line
  • Toei Asakusa Line
  • Keisei Line
  • Tobu Railway services

Tokyo Skytree Town is directly connected to Oshiage Station.

This means you do not need to walk several blocks outside to find Tokyo Skytree.

After arriving, look for signs for:

TOKYO SKYTREE

or

TOKYO SKYTREE TOWN

and follow the indoor route.

Tokyo Metro also lists Tokyo Skytree and Tokyo Skytree Town as directly connected destinations from Oshiage Station.

Do I Need a Specific Exit at Oshiage?

Not necessarily.

If your destination is Tokyo Skytree itself, it is usually easier to follow the signs for:

TOKYO SKYTREE / TOKYO SKYTREE TOWN

rather than immediately looking for a street exit.

Tokyo Solamachi is also directly connected to Oshiage Station.

Its official access guide lists B3 and A2 as convenient exits for the complex.

However, if you are going to the Tokyo Skytree observation decks, follow the indoor signs toward the 4F entrance instead of automatically going outside.

How Long from Oshiage Station to the Tokyo Skytree Entrance?

According to Tokyo Skytree’s official access guide, the route from Oshiage Station to the 4F Main Entrance takes approximately:

7 minutes

This includes moving through the station and Tokyo Skytree Town and going up to the entrance floor.

So although Oshiage is directly connected, you still need a few minutes to reach the actual observation deck entrance.

TOKYO SKYTREE Station — Best from Asakusa

The other convenient station is:

TOKYO SKYTREE Station

This station is on the Tobu Skytree Line.

It is especially useful if you are coming from Asakusa.

Tobu Railway lists the journey from Tobu Asakusa Station to TOKYO SKYTREE Station at approximately 3 minutes.

That makes it a very simple option if you are visiting both:

Asakusa + Tokyo Skytree

on the same day.

Which Exit at TOKYO SKYTREE Station?

TOKYO SKYTREE Station has routes from both the West Exit and East Exit.

According to Tokyo Skytree’s official guide:

West Exit → 4F Main Entrance: about 6 minutes

East Exit → 4F Main Entrance: about 7 minutes

The difference is very small.

Follow the station signs for Tokyo Skytree after leaving the ticket gate.

Oshiage or TOKYO SKYTREE Station — Which Is Actually Closer?

This is where it gets interesting.

You might assume that the station called TOKYO SKYTREE Station must always be the closest.

But in practical terms, both stations are very close.

Approximate time to the Tokyo Skytree 4F Main Entrance:

Oshiage Station → about 7 minutes

TOKYO SKYTREE Station West Exit → about 6 minutes

TOKYO SKYTREE Station East Exit → about 7 minutes

So the walking difference is not important enough to justify making an unnecessary train transfer.

The easiest station is usually the one that fits your train route.

Coming from Asakusa?

If you are already in Asakusa, one simple route is:

Tobu Asakusa Station → TOKYO SKYTREE Station

The train ride is approximately 3 minutes on the Tobu Skytree Line.

This is particularly convenient if you have been visiting Senso-ji Temple or Kaminarimon.

Japan Life Steps also has a guide to the different Asakusa stations and exits:

Coming from Tokyo Station?

A convenient route is:

Tokyo Station → Kinshicho → Oshiage

Tokyo Skytree’s official access information shows:

JR Sobu Line Rapid: Tokyo → Kinshicho

then

Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line: Kinshicho → Oshiage

If you are already using trains around central Tokyo, Oshiage is often a convenient destination to enter into your route planner.

Coming from Haneda Airport?

Oshiage is convenient because the Toei Asakusa Line connects with Keikyu services from the Haneda Airport area.

Depending on the train service, you may be able to reach Oshiage without complicated transfers.

Check the train destination carefully because not every service follows exactly the same route.

Coming from Narita Airport?

Oshiage is also convenient from Narita Airport.

Keisei services connect the airport area with Oshiage, and Tokyo Skytree’s official access information lists Oshiage as a route from Narita Airport.

This can make Tokyo Skytree a convenient sightseeing stop before or after traveling through eastern Tokyo.

Don’t Confuse Tokyo Skytree with Tokyo Skytree Town

You may see several similar names:

Tokyo Skytree
= the 634-meter tower and observation decks

Tokyo Skytree Town
= the larger complex surrounding the tower

Tokyo Solamachi
= the shopping and dining complex inside Tokyo Skytree Town

If station signs say Tokyo Skytree Town or Tokyo Solamachi, you are still heading toward the correct area.

Where Is the Tokyo Skytree Observation Deck Entrance?

The main entrance for the Tokyo Skytree observation decks is on the 4th floor.

Do not assume that arriving directly underneath the tower means you have reached the entrance.

Follow signs for:

TOKYO SKYTREE 4F Entrance

or the observation deck entrance.

Escalators and indoor walkways take visitors from the station and shopping complex toward the entrance floor.

A Common Mistake

A common mistake is spending extra time trying to reach the station that looks closest on a map.

For example:

If you are already on the Hanzomon Line, simply use Oshiage.

If you are already at Tobu Asakusa Station, use the Tobu Skytree Line to TOKYO SKYTREE Station.

Saving one minute of walking is usually not worth adding another train transfer.

Remember This

The easiest rule is:

Hanzomon Line → Oshiage

Toei Asakusa Line → Oshiage

Keisei Line → Oshiage

From Asakusa on the Tobu Skytree Line → TOKYO SKYTREE Station

Both stations are excellent choices.

Choose based on your train route, not just the station name.

Japan Life Steps Tip

Tokyo Skytree is much easier once you stop thinking:

“Which station is closest?”

and instead ask:

“Which station can I reach most easily from where I am now?”

In Japan, avoiding an unnecessary transfer can often save more time than choosing a station that is one or two minutes closer on foot.
